Movies, life & baseball

My weekend began with seeing The Blind Side on Friday night with Adam….

It’s an enjoyable movie and seeing the story of Michael Oher on screen was touching, I really need to read the book. However, I’m not sure Sandra Bullock deserves an Oscar for this one. It was nice to see her in a different role, but when compared with some of the others in her category, I don’t think she has much of a chance.

That being said, ‘grats to her on getting nominated! We’ve got the Oscars on everywhere here at work today, guess there’s no avoiding it when you work for a media company.

Saturday was filled with mundane things such as washing, cleaning and other bits and pieces…

I got to spend some much needed time with Gretel, unfortunately my brother’s dog attacked her twice during the week so she was feeling a little down but she’s ok. She’s such a little trooper despite being as sick as… a dog, with the cancer ravaging her system.

I dropped in on Adam and paid a visit to my massage therapist since my hands and wrists were playing up.

Oh and other exciting stuff like grocery shopping with purchases of milk, bread and cereal!

Despite the grim forecast of rain and thunderstorms all weekend, it never really eventuated and trust me we were all grateful! You see, yesterday was our semi final for baseball and we definitely had the juju and praying happening all week in the leadup.

Yesterday was a special day for all of us for a number of reasons:

  • Baseball semi final against a team of guys aged 16-19, our average age is 25-55 odd, most of us in our 30-40’s.
  • The first time we were playing in our new uniforms! (Don’t you just love the new white shirts – old were black – against our old pants )
  • The first time we were playing on our new fields at Kogarah after a year of not having a home field whilst they were being built (our old fields were sold off by the council for a golf course rolleyes)

So we were raring to go!

We were behind early on (9-3) but fought our way back so that going into the top of the 7th, we were 1 ahead. The opposing team managed to score 2 so it was tied going into the bottom of the 7th. For semis, we play 7 innings only and thankfully we were the home team so we would always have the right of reply and bat last.

We had 2 out, Dan managed to steal 3rd and Fab’s was almost at a full count (2 strikes and a ball or 2), so it was now or we’d have to go to another inning and who knows how that would have turned out, as we were all tired having been out in the sun for hours and hours. In the end, Dan managed to steal home to huge cheers erupting from every direction, it was one of those you-had-to-be-there moments.

A perfect thrilling end to the game and to christen our pristine fields! Here’s most of our team immediately after the game, see if you can spot me in the back row…

Here a few more photos of our new fields and our game yesterday…
